Mr. Destiny / Iceland Airwaves

Iceland Airwaves

Since the first show held in 1999 (in an airplane hangar), Iceland Airwaves has become one of the premier showcases for new music – Icelandic and otherwise – in the world. It’s been called “the most innovative music festival since CMJ” and “as responsible for all of Reykjavík’s recent positive press as Björk herself”.

Some of the world’s most exciting artists, including Suede, The Flaming Lips, The Hives, Fatboy Slim, Thievery Corporation and rising stars such as Florence And The Machine, White Lies and Friendly Fires have made the short hop from Europe or North America to share the stages with Iceland’s finest talents: Sigur Rós, Gus Gus, Jagúar, Quarashi, Leaves, Trabant, FM Belfast, Steed Lord and many, many more. And when the live bands are finished, top DJs spin across the city until dawn.

The Grapewire team designs, engineers and manages online operations including ticket sales for this years festival.

Details

Following a careful analysis of how and when the Airwaves team needed to maintain information about artists and venues the Grapewire team implemented a flexible maintenance system which also tracked information on the hundreds of acts willing to play the festival.

The actual ticket sales combined simple online sales incorporated into the Airwaves site, accepting payments in five different currencies and a physical outlet. The same system was used at the Airwaves center when wristbands were handed out.

Both the web version and the mobile guide were constantly updated and featured some unique ways plan the ideal venue hopping experience.

This custom solution addresses the complete communication needs of the festival in all phases of the production from the early planning phase right to the last email announcement of the upcoming 12th Iceland Airwaves festival in 2010.
